Welcome to Governor Richardson's Kids Corner, where you can learn all kinds of fun facts and interesting information about New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment. Such as, did you know that New Mexico became the 47th state in the Union on January 6, 1912? Or that the Zia symbol, pictured on the right, not only appears in the center of the New Mexico flag, but that it was the symbol of the Zia people for centuries? You can find out more about that in the document called The Zia Sun Symbol, available at the bottom of the page. |

And did you know that New Mexico is one of the few states with an official state cookie? Can you guess what it is? That's right -- the Biscochito is New Mexico's official state cookie. But do you know what the official state bird is? Or the official state tree? Or the official state flower? You can find out in the Official State Symbols document below. |
Maybe you already knew that the unofficial state question in New Mexico is "red or green" and that Hatch, New Mexico is known as the "Green Chile Capital of the World." And maybe you even know that our official state vegetables are the chile and pinto bean, two essential ingredients to many classic New Mexico dishes. But did you know that Las Cruces, NM makes the world's largest enchilada every year in October at their "Whole Enchilada Festival"? You'd know that if you read all the New Mexico Fun Facts, available here.
